The Taliban’s statement about “Intra-Afghan Conference” in Qatar

On April 17th 2019, the Taliban’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid released a statement concerning the up coming Intra-Afghan Conference in Qatar. The conference starts on the 20th and raps up the 21st of April in the capital of Qatar, Doha. Below is a copy of the statement.

“Clarification by spokesman of Islamic Emirate regarding Intra-Afghan conference in Qatar

As our fellow countrymen are already aware, an Intra-Afghan conference in planned for the 20th and 21st April in the capital of Qatar, Doha. We must clarify that the hosts of this conference have explained in both written and verbal form that no one will be representing the Kabul administration in this conference. If any participant is affiliated with the Kabul administration as was the case in the Moscow conference, they shall partake in a personal capacity and express their own personal views as no one is allowed to represent the Kabul administration.

The Kabul administration has published a list of 250 participants for the said conference but the hosts of this conference have no plans of accepting so many people from Kabul and neither is such participation normal in such conferences.

Only a limited number of political and national figures from this list are selected for the finalized list and only they shall be participating.

The creators of Kabul list must realize that this is an orderly and prearranged conference in a far-away Khaleeji country and not an invitation to some wedding or other party at a hotel in Kabul.

Arranging and publishing such lists signifies that the Kabul administration fears these conferences and progress towards peace and is trying to be a spoiler with such actions.
