Protests bring Hong Kong Airport to a halt (Video)

For two days the eighth-busiest airport in the world was grounded.

Demonstrators brought Hong Kong International Airport to a standstill on Aug. 12 and 13, as protests against the mainland Chinese government erupted into two days of riots.

But the tensions that led to the airport protests had been building in Hong Kong throughout the spring and summer, and protesters had been a common sight at the airport for weeks. Below is a video clip from the protests.

Protesters have gathered in Hong Kong International Airport since July, greeting travelers at the arrival gate and serenading them with protest songs. While most of the protests at the airport have been peaceful, the clashes this week prompted the suspension of hundreds of departing flights.
