After remarks from Somali U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that compared the U.S. and Israel to terrorist groups Hamas and the Taliban (many found to be anti-Semitic), Rashida Tlaib came to her defense by tweeting:
“Freedom of speech doesn’t exist for Muslim women in Congress. The benefit of the doubt doesn’t exist for Muslim women in Congress. House Democratic leadership should be ashamed of its relentless, exclusive tone policing of Congresswomen of color.”
Omar has accused her critics of using “islamaphobic tropes” to attack her. The situation has escalated with ‘death threats’ directed at the Minnesota Congresswoman, which have been blamed on Jewish House Democrats, who are drafting an official rebuke about her comments.
