On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the French Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Eric Chevallier. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
Iraqi- French relations were discussed during the meeting and how best to promote these in all sectors in a way that would most benefit both countries’ citizens and serve the region as well.
President Salih and Mr. Chevallier spoke about the importance of enhancing economic and trade cooperation between both countries.
Furthermore, it was therefore vital to combine efforts and work together towards addressing the challenges of terrorism, curbing corruption, recovering stolen funds, protecting environment as well as tackling clime change, participants agreed.
Meeting’s agenda included the discussion of the recent developments in the region and the issues of common concern.
It was also necessary so that tensions in the region to be calmed, where there could be further dialogue to resolve the lingering issues in order to bring regional peace and security in the region, they stressed, which is likely to lead to achieve security and stability in Iraq and bring back its central role in the region.
