Vital to strengthen bilateral relations and to develop them, and Iraq has important role to promote peace and stability in the region.
On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. The meeting was held at the Baghdad Palace.
The Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Defense Minister first conveyed greetings from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud, to the Iraqi president.
President Salih reciprocated, asking Prince Khalid to convey his greetings to the Saudi royals in turn.
During the meeting the close relations between the two fraternal peoples and countries were discussed, with focus on the ways to best develop these ties.
President Salih highlighted the importance of developing Baghdad- Riyadh relations, with further developing and expanding the prospects of cooperation across all the fields.
Great emphasis was placed by the Iraqi President to put in effect the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries in the areas of security, economy and investment.
These could be enhanced through having further cooperation and coordination, thereby guaranteeing the interest of both peoples, president Salih added.
During the meeting, participants hailed the close and developed relations that linked the tow brotherly countries, and emphasized their countries’ desire to advance cooperation and to have further bilateral coordination.
Talks focus on the pivotal role played by the KSA in the Arab region.
Furthermore, they agreed that a secure and sovereign Iraq having good relations with its Arab environment and its Islamic neighborhood is an essential pillar for building peace, security, stability in the region.
Prince Khalid, in turn, appreciated President Salih, and stressed his country’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s security and its stability as he showed his country’s willingness to have further collaboration with Iraq in the areas of security, economy, investment and trade in the ways that serve the interest of both peoples.
