The President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met today, Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at his residence in New York with the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades.
Bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed during the meeting and how best to promote these in all sectors.
Economic, trade and investment fields should be focused primarily, President Salih and President Nicos Anastasiades agreed.
Both leaders emphasized how important it was to have further international cooperation to address the challenges facing the states of the region and the World as well.
Meeting’s agenda included the discussion of the fight against terrorism and how to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation. Assistance being provided for the Iraqi refugees by Cyprus was praised.
Iraq attaches great importance to protect its sovereignty, security and stability, to enhance cooperation and to further develop trade and economic ties, President Salih said, while action which would threaten peace in the region should be rejected.
Iraqi President Salih emphasized that economic crises, the spread of the coronavirus outbreak and the climate change require the international community to make every effort and further cooperation to move beyond these conditions in order to lay the foundations of peace and stability and achieve progress and prosperity for nations.
Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades supported the view expressed by President Salih, and emphasized Cyprus’s eagerness to support Iraq at every level and to further develop ties with Iraq across all sectors.
