Car bomb rocks Baghdad

A car bomb was detenated in Baghdad Friday night, kill on and injuring 16. The explosion took place between Jamhuriyah bridge and Tahrir square where tens of thousands of protesters have gathered every night since October 25. The full details of the explosion, which took place around 10:30pm, are not yet available.

The current protests which started in early October has resulted in the deaths of around 300 Iraqis. Also thousands have been injured. Some have alleged that Iranian-backed militias have been targeting the protester. On social media, the Iraqis have posted videos of Iranian teargas grenades and Iranian IDs and passports that have been drop by the militants. Protester are claiming that Iran’s IRGC Quds Force leader Qasem Soleimani has been in Baghdad directing the crack down.
