On Sunday, July 31, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with Iraqi Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Hassan Nadhim. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
At the outset of the meeting, Iraqi President Salih hailed the efforts made by the Ministry of the Culture, Tourism and Antiquities and other relevant Ministries and state institutions that contributed to retrieve 17000 pieces of smuggled artifacts of cultural relics from the Stone Age.
Iraq’s archaeological sites and its cultural and historical monuments must be safeguarded, he said, so it is considered as the true and historical record that gives our country the pride place among the ancient civilizations.
Cultural monuments and literary events should be given more attention, President Salih emphasized, while art and literary output and its organization of intellectual, cultural events should be supported, with focus on the need to support talented young people.
He added that these aim to bring Iraq back to resume exercising its role to enrich cultural movement at both Arab and World levels.
