The President of the Iraq Meets the President of the United States of America

President Barham Salih met today, Tuesday, September 21, 2021 the American President Joseph Biden, on the sidelines of the UNGA meetings.

During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the ways to strengthen these relations on all levels and in accordance with the strategic dialogue and mutual interests. They also discussed the support to fair and transparent elections and the importance of continuing the fight against terrorism.

President Salih affirmed Iraq’s desire to build strong political, security, environmental, and economic, and cultural relations with the United States of America based on the mutual interests of the two countries and in accordance with the strategic framework.

They also discussed the latest regional and international developments. President Salih affirmed that Iraq’s policy is balanced and seeks to solve outstanding issues through diplomacy, avoid crisis, and Iraq’s central role to build peace. Further, he spoke about ways to deal with environmental changes, and desertification.

President Biden praised the progress Iraq is making towards stability and, affirmed Washington’s commitment to Iraq’s security, sovereignty, the fight against terrorism and economic development. He also expressed commitment to continue to coordinate our work in accordance with the strategic dialogue in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.
