The European Union condemned the execution of Ruhollah Zam

A spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell says the EU condemns the execution of Ruhollah Zam “in the strongest possible terms”. He added that the death sentence was not acceptable in all circumstances. On the other hand, the Iranian government must prove that his trial was fair.

The German government also sharply criticized the officials of the Islamic Republic. A German Foreign Ministry spokesman said Berlin “expressed disgust” with the execution.

A German Foreign Ministry spokesman said the death penalty was “a very cruel and inhumane form of punishment that we reject in all circumstances.”

A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry added that the German government was “very shocked by the situation that led to his conviction, and in particular how he was brought to Iran from abroad.”
