“Hospitals are still filled with patients and we are not accepting any non-emergency patients. During the peak of the third wave in one day we had 23,000 patients hospitalized while in this peak we have reached 50,000 hospitalized patients,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday. “Each day 250,000 to 300,000 people seek medical care in various centers. We have found the peak of this illness, being twice as high as the peak during the third wave. Currently we are surpassing the peak. 15 provinces are reporting decreasing numbers. Ten provinces have reached their peak but five provinces, including Tehran, are near their peaks. We still have 198 cities registered as red zones. Furthermore, we have detected a number of cases involving the South African variant. We also have a few confirmed cases of the Indian variant. We are waiting for their test results to confirm if the Indian variant has also entered Iran,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“With this question that if vaccination is taking place based on people’s professions, why is there a difference between Iranian municipality workers and non-Iranian municipality workers?” a member of the Tehran City Council asked on Sunday. “Apparently, Afghan nationals cannot receive the vaccine since they lack national identity codes. If they cannot receive the vaccine, how are they allowed to continue their work?” he continued, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
