Iran: Regime’s concerns escalate over nationwide boycott campaign

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, June 17, 2021—On Friday, the clerical regime ruling Iran will hold its so-called elections while an absolute majority of the Iranian population are determined to boycott the farce. People are calling it a sham election, result from nothing but the regime’s internal balance of power. The popular uprisings in December 2017, January 2018, November 2019, and January 2020, in which the people chanted “Reformists, hardliners, Game Over!” have changed the circumstances for both factions in the upcoming elections.

Therefore, regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei is trying to install Ebrahim Raisi, one of the regime’s most vicious and ruthless executioners, as the regime’s next president. He is mostly known for his direct role in the summer 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners, mostly members and supporters of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Despite the fact that the Iranian people have always rejected the mullahs’ theocracy in the last 42 years, and the Iranian Resistance has continuously boycotted all of the regime’s elections, a nationwide call to boycott Friday’s elections in Iran is unprecedented.

Recently, the MEK network inside Iran known as the Resistance Units, organized a vast campaign calling for the boycott of the mullahs’ sham elections. The campaign began in April and has now become extremely popular and welcomed by the general public. Various segments of Iran’s society have joined the campaign to say, “We will not vote, and our vote and only option is regime change and a democratic Iran.”

In recent days, Resistance Units are continuing their anti-regime campaigns through slogans such as “No to the mullahs’ rule, no to religious tyranny, no to repression, no to looting,” “Down with Khamenei,” and “Our vote is regime change and yes to freedom and a democratic republic.”

In addition to Tehran, the Resistance Units are taking to graffiti to voice various slogans in cities such as Mashhad, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Yazd, Shiraz, Ahvaz, Shushtar, Behbahan, Dehdasht, Saravan, Chalus, Babol, Khorramabad, Babolsar, Anzali, Karaj, Yasuj, Hamadan, and Sanandaj.

In major cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Mashhad, MEK Resistance Units installed, posters of the Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRIMaryam Rajavi with the following slogans: “Democracy and freedom with Maryam Rajavi,” and “Victory is ours; tomorrow is ours.”

In downtown Mashhad, Resistance Units installed a huge banner of Maryam Rajavi on a bridge.

These measures demand enormous courage considering the fact that supporting the MEK is severely punished by the regime. The mullahs’ state-run media also acknowledged the MEK’s grown influence among youths and the expansion of Resistance Units, warning about possible nationwide protests.

In this regard the News Network news agency (SNN), affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Basij paramilitary forces wrote on June 2: “The biggest threat is the enemy’s interference, being the MEK who are always monitoring and investing on social dissent of the younger generation. The MEK continues to mislead them and this is a very dangerous reality that can lead to protests and rebellions against anything symbolizing our establishment.”
