Iraqi President Salih Meets Iran’s Vice President

On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Vice President of Iran and the Head of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

At the outset of the meeting, Qazizadeh Hashemi first conveyed the greeting from the Iranian President to President Salih. President Salih reciprocated, asking the Vice President to convey his greetings to Iranian President Raisi.

Iraqi-Iranian relations were discussed during the meeting, and the importance of these ties is to serve the interests of the two neighboring countries and of both peoples, they said.

The discussions at these talks focused on the need to strengthen the relationship between the two States at every level.

Participants at the meeting placed emphasis on the importance of sharing experience across all the fields. It is therefore essential that understandings and agreements signed between the two countries be entered into force, they agreed, these included investment and service projects.

Mr. Qazizadeh Hashemi said that Iran is still committed to supporting Iraq across all sectors, and emphasized his country’s eagerness to further develop bilateral ties between Iraq and Iran in a way that would most benefit both countries’ citizens.
